SuziCate's Musings

Slipping Into Fall

Across the waves of water and clouded skies, she whispers all day and into the night until her voice rises to a mothering roar. She calls to the oaks and maples to pack away their summer bags. She tells the squirrels and chipmunks it’s time to fill the cellar. She cautions the bear and deer to remember to wear their overcoats. She tells the geese and hummingbirds to lift their wings and come on home. Mama warns her babies to grab a blanket and slip into something comfortable because change is coming.

Across the waves of water and clouded skies,
she whispers all day and into the night until
her voice rises to a mothering roar.
She calls to the oaks and maples
to pack away their summer bags.
She tells the squirrels and chipmunks
it’s time to fill the cellar.
She cautions the bear and deer
to remember to wear their overcoats.
She tells the geese and hummingbirds
to lift their wings and come on home.
Mama warns her babies
to grab a blanket and slip into
something comfortable because
change is coming.
